South Milwaukee is located about fifteen minutes south of the City of Milwaukee on the shores of Lake Michigan. It is about fifteen minutes north of the thriving community of Racine, Wisconsin. South Milwaukee had its start in the year 1891 when a town site was purchased by developers for the purpose of establishing a suburb. It was incorporated as a village in 1892 and currently occupies about five square miles with a population exceeding 21,000 people. The City of South Milwaukee is very popular with people locating in Southeastern Wisconsin because of its smaller town feel on the shores of Lake Michigan with the convenience of proximity to the urban amenities of the City of Milwaukee and the easy commute to the City of Chicago by AMTRAK or Interstate 94. The South Milwaukee Chamber of Commerce is very active and committed to bringing businesses and residents to the area by promoting the extensive benefits of living, working and playing in the area. This is a thriving and growing community.
